09/10/81 55008 On the 09/10/1981 a Shopping Proposal was drawn up due to the failure of the no.1 power unit. On this form there is a hand written note from the CM&EE, York (G. Jewell):
"This locomotive is at present in service on one p.u. only. No further units are available from works for replacement. The Regional Controller, ER, has requested that it remains in service on one p.u. only, for a limited period only & should then be withdrawn from operating stock in the near future".
16/10/81 55008 Memo from the Director of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, 14 Melbury Terrace, London, to CM&EE, ER, York dated 16/10/1981:
"Retain in traffic, resubmit shopping proposal if & when unclassified repair required".

D5908 Disposal Update...
   

As an update to the history books, which have D5908 cut up at G. Cohen, Kettering in January 1970, it now appears this loco was actually disposed of at J. Cashmore, Great Bridge, in February 1970. Many thanks to Nigel Paine for bringing this to my attention from a link on the RCTS website: www.rcts.org.uk. If, however this link at anytime does not appear to work the information can also be found here.

  Railway and Deltic enthusiast Rob Myres, pictured left with D9010 at York in 1971, writes to inform of a new website dedicated to those who grew up and live in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester - although it's not a dedicated railway website it does have some interesting old photos to peruse. Rob says: "...We loved trains and lived on the doorstep of Dewsnap sidings when it was probably at its peak in the 60/70's. Of course its demise is now complete. Across the tracks of course was Dukinfield Wagon Works which played a big part in truck manufacture and repair too..."
