Where it all started...

A stunning view of the prototype DP1 "DELTIC" as it departs Newark Northgate during 1960 with
the 12:20 Hull - King's Cross (reporting code: 123). So popular was the design that British Rail Eastern Region
ordered twenty-two production machines to replace the Pacific steam locomotives for their Anglo-Scottish
express services between London and Edinburgh.

Introduced in 1961 and surviving until 2nd January 1982 the twenty-two production Deltics clocked up a staggering amount of mileage between them, some individual members achieving four million miles alone. For eighteen years of their careers they were the mainstay of motive power for the Anglo-Scottish express trains between London King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley along the East Coast Mail Line (ECML). The attempt to account for every Deltic movement would be impossible though slowly a picture is emerging of the locomotive's (sometimes) varied career.

I would, therefore, be very grateful if you could help in anyway. What the site requires is loco moves (i.e. 10:20 Newcastle - King's Cross) as well as the loco concerned and the date in question to add to the growing lists already included on this site - click here - to access the lists so far formulated. The site also has over 1900 images of the class and new photos are always welcome. To contribute see the e-mail page - here.

I'm happy to say that the site regularly receives complements - non of which I can really take the credit for as I only update the site with the information I am given. Credit goes to those who submit, have submitted and will do so in the future.
