55003 (D9003) "MELD" was withdraw on the 31st December 1980 and dispatched to Doncaster Works for scrapping on the same day. Shortly after arrival at Doncaster it was stripped of its traction motor blowers for use in other class members and was moved to the rear of the works for stripping, and further component recovery, on the 12th February 1981. Having just arrived at 'Goliath Crane' on the 12th time for the former Finsbury Park machine is running out...

...Scrap boilers at the rear of Doncaster Works on 12th February 1981. It is likely that the cleanest example is boiler 5088/J3239 removed from 55003 whilst the other is most likely the last to be fitted to either 55001 (5089/J3240) or 55020 (5086/J3237). Further research intended on this web site will include the listing of major components (power units, boilers and bogies) and there instalment in each Deltic locomotive.
