D9000 "ROYAL SCOTS GREY" found itself on hire by Virgin Trains on the 5th December 1998 and was employed on the 1E33 1:10 Bristol -Newcastle (13:45 from Birmingham) cross-country service, seen here at Newcastle shortly after arrival. The locomotive returned as 1V87 17:58 Newcastle - Bristol as far as Birmingham.
