...55022's final service train was the 1S12 05:50 King's Cross - Aberdeen, which it worked to Edinburgh, on the 31st December 1981. This was actually a positioning move putting 55022 in place to work the Deltic Farewell railtour from Edinburgh to King's Cross on the 2nd January 1982 (relieving 55015 which had worked the outward leg from King's Cross)...

...55022 and 55009 (D9009) "ALYCIDON" at Doncaster Works on the 27th February 1982. Both locomotives were saved for preservation; 55009 leaving Doncaster in August 1982 as property of the Deltic Preservation Society and D9000 leaving in September 1983 after purchase by the D9000 Fund.
