Railway and Deltic enthusiast Rob Myres, pictured left with
D9010 at York in 1971, writes to inform of a new website
dedicated to those who grew up and live in Dukinfield, Greater
Manchester - although it's not a dedicated railway website it
does have some interesting old photos to peruse. Rob says:
"...We loved
trains and lived on the doorstep of Dewsnap sidings when it
was probably at its peak in the 60/70's. Of course its demise is
now complete. Across the tracks of course was Dukinfield Wagon
Works which played a big part in truck manufacture and repair
too..."

D9016 Back in Action...
|
D9016
|
|
Following sterling effort from Martin Walker and his support
crew D9016's No.1 power unit (No.406 - that which was overhauled at Paxman
Diesels in 2001) was restarted during the first week in January, this being
the first time the engine has run since 2004. As a result the loco will be
in action this weekend along with 55022 at the ELR. Martin
Walker writes:
Following a lot of hard work and expense, 55 022 'Royal Scots Grey' is
now in fantastic condition and we have enjoyed a prolonged period of trouble
free operation. Having given some thought to 2011 being the Class 55's 50th
birthday, it was decided it would be a shame if D9016 'Gordon Highlander'
was to miss out on the special events, due to 55 022's fantastic
reliability, time has been available for myself and some members of our
superb support team to address the problems with Power Unit 406 installed in
D9016.
Following repairs the engine was started for the first time since August
2004 at Bury on Tuesday 4th January and has been run at various speed levels
over the last week and there have been no signs of continued oil
contamination with engine coolant. Other minor repairs have been done to the
loco and a full A/Fitness To Run Examination has been completed and we are
now happy to announce it's return to service at the East Lancashire Railway
- Excellent news in the Deltic's 50th year.
This Saturdays diesel diagram which was originally rostered for haulage by
55 022, should now also feature D9016 working some of the services, possibly
there will be a selection of workings with both locos working in tandem and
top and tail mode. Booked times for the days services are:-
09.50 Bury-Rawtenstall
10.40 Rawtenstall to Heywood.
12.00 Heywood to Rawtenstall.
13.10 Rawtenstall to Heywood.
14.20 Heywood to Rawtenstall.
15.40 Rawtenstall to Heywood.
16.50 Heywood to Bury.
