Following the disastrous power unit fire, at Loughborough in December 1999, on its inaugural run following overhaul and repaint into Porterbrook colours, 9016 "GORDON HIGHLANDER" was to spend the best part of two years awaiting power unit repairs at Crewe Diesel Depot and is seen here at the north end of the depot on 16th September 2000. During its time at Crewe 9016 had its damaged unit removed and sent to Paxman Diesels at Colchester for a complete overhaul. The unit did not return for refitting until the Spring of 2002 and 9016 was finally ready for a second test run on 28th March 2002.
