Although originally out-shopped from Brush Works in December 1999, with its mainline certification work complete, the catastrophic events of its certification run, when it suffered an exhaust  fire and subsequent water ingress to its No.1 power unit, led 9016 "GORDON HIGHLANDER" to await remedial repairs until 2002. Stored at Leicester, Brush Works (Loughborough) and finally Crewe Diesel Depot 9016 waited whilst power unit No.406 was dispatched to Paxman Diesels, Colchester, for a total strip and rebuild. In March 2002 the unit was finally re-fitted to the locomotive and its certification run was once again attempted - this time successfully. Here 9016 "GORDON HIGHLANDER" passes Water Orton, with its inaugural railtour duty following certification, on Pathfinder Tours 1Z40 07:22 Crewe to Scarborough "Napier Navigator" railtour on 6 April 2002....

...9016 "GORDON HIGHLANDER" restarts No.2 power unit at York's National Railway Museum after taking on fuel via a road tanker on 6th April 2002. The locomotive was awaiting a light engine run to Scarborough to continue its part in the days Pathfinder "Napier Navigator" railtour...

...Returning from Scarborough to Crewe with the Pathfinder "Napier Navigator" railtour 9016 "GORDON HIGHLANDER" skirts the A64 at Seamer on the 6th April 2002.
