Withdrawn from operating stock on the 18th May 1981 55012 "CREPELLO" is seen at York TMD on the 25th of the month undergoing component recovery for the rest of the fleet. The locomotive was not actually officially withdrawn until the 31st May. 55012 remained at York until mid June when class-mate 55014 (D9014) "THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON'S REGIMENT" took it on its final journey to Doncaster Works for scrapping. 55012 was cut-up at Doncaster during September 1981.
